Cristina is our partner in implementing a Situational Leadership program for both managers and subordinates over the business unit. After she participated at a train the trainers workshop on Blanchard solutions, Cristina supervised the whole program and delivered internally the Self Situational Leadership module. We had a chat about her experience with this program.
Human Invest: Who is Oracle Global Finance, and the target group participating in this program?
Cristina Purcarea: Oracle Global Finance reunites a service centre for Europe, Middle East and Africa, having the departments of Credit & Collections, Contracts, Expenses and Incentive Compensation. The target group participating in the Situational Leadership program consists in the managers of these departments and their teams.
Human Invest: What were the need and the context that resulted in implementing a leadership program for both managers and subordinates?
Cristina Purcarea: We always make sure we support our colleague’s professional development by investing in different training programs, especially on soft skills. The Situational Leadership program has been recommended by one the Oracle Vice Presidents in the US headquarters, who participated at the course developed by Ken Blanchard.
The model behind this program is very practical and easy to understand and implement. For the effect to be maximum we decided that managers participate in Situational Leadership II course, and the team members at Self Situational Leadership, the two being complementary and relying on the same model from different perspectives: that of the manager and that of the employees.
Human Invest: How did you sustain the parallel delivery of the model for managers and subordinates?
Cristina Purcarea: As Training Specialist of the department I participated at a train the trainers program for Self Situational Leadership, so that I can deliver the model for my colleagues in the above mentioned departments.
In parallel a trainer from Human Invest delivers the Situational Leadership II course for the management team. Like this we can make sure the model is known and understood at all levels of the organization, and we facilitate the foundation of a successful partnership between managers and subordinates.
Human Invest: What are the results and changes you noticed after the launch of the program?
Cristina Purcarea: The course itself is very interactive, with numerous applications, and like this the participants start to experiment the model during the training itself. One of the instruments we use is the One to One meetings instrument. Such meetings already took place between managers and their team members, but with the help of this form they became more structured and respected the timelines.
Using this form helps practicing the model, together with tracking the subordinate’s evolution on specific objectives. Because we implemented this model for both managers and subordinates, the latter are being encouraged to take more initiative, while the managers are taught how to accept and support their team in reaching their objectives.
Human Invest: How was this experience for you as a trainer?
Cristina Purcarea: I was convinces of the use of the model since when I attended the training. I had the curiosity to try it, and also the will to invest time and energy to make this differently. And because I myself am convinced it works it’s easier for me to “sell” this concept to my participants.
It’s good to see that the participants and active and they are interested in the subject, but it’s even better to see that those who attended actually practice the model and they come and tell you: “It really works!”
