| Building an Internal Management Conference |

Situation
At the end of the year we had the pleasure to assist one of our largest clients in preparing their annual meeting with the executive team. The company has been undergoing major changes during the year, both in the shareholder and management team structure. The purpose of the 3 days conference-meeting was to create common understanding among the 150 people from the management team on current issues and reality and make the firsts steps in setting the values, vision and direction for the future.
The HI solution
Human Invest worked close with the client’s Communication Agency, which developed the creative concept of the conference. The agenda was carefully tailored to meet the clients’ needs, and also to fit the concept and message developed by the agency:
• Following up on last year’s conference where Tom Peters had a presentation, we invited our partners from Tom Peters Company UK to facilitate the agenda. Chris Nel, with a solid background in both military and business and previous experience in the Balkans has been a perfect match with the client’s pragmatic and results driven culture!
• The process was split in two parts: first we focused on supporting the Executive Team to define their past evolution and create a vision for the future. Then, looking at the two stories we put down the Key Transformations the company needs to undergo to achieve its desired future. This gave people the chance to capture the stories that illustrate the culture and practices of their business.
• In the second part the Executive Team had to assist their direct subordinates from the Management Team in understanding the new business reality and to be prepared to build it. The Executives, assisted by Chris, followed a set of 4 steps with their managers: they first made sure everyone Understands the future direction, then that they Agree with, Care about how this will influence them and that they know how to Take appropriate action.
• The closing of the three days-process was putting into perspective the Leadership versus the Management approach to building the future. The entire management team decided that building the Leadership capabilities within the organization is a priority in supporting key transformations and turning into action the values and vision.
Results
• The managers had a much needed space to assess the changes the company underwent during the year. With a clear future in mind, each Business Unit could put down the key actions they can take to contribute to the broader objectives of the company.
• As follow-up, this year’s key priorities linked to the work within the conference are clarifying and transmitting the vision and the values throughout the organization at all levels and enabling the Management Team to gain a set of Leadership abilities that are crucial for the future transformations.
• Human Invest in partnership with Tom Peters Company will work throughout the year on a follow-up process involving quarterly meetings with the entire Management Team plus a series of workshops with the Executive Team. The main points that are to be delivered include The Leadership Challenge Workshop for strengthening leadership capabilities, a Facilitation Workshop and setting up a series of internal projects delivered by Management Team with our support. |
